2023: I am fit to become Atiku's running mate - Gov. Okowa
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has stated that he is qualified to serve as the running mate to Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Okowa, a two-term Delta governor, made the revelation during a news conference in Asaba through his Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu.
In response to concerns that former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, was secretly working against his (Okowa's) prospects of being Atiku's running mate, the governor stated the rumour was the work of fifth columnists.
Senator Okowa and Chief Ibori, according to Aniagwu, are not feuding.
"The governor has contributed to the expansion of the PDP; he does not brag about it because he has the obligation to do it as a member of the party," he said.
"You also know how many times the party called him in to help with primaries. I'm not sure if anyone is bringing any roadblocks, but if anyone is going to obstruct Okowa, I believe it should be God.
"And, last I looked, I don't believe he has insulted God enough for God to take that choice against him."
"So we're on track; I don't think there's any friction between Okowa and Ibori; these are people who have worked closely together."
