Atiku chooses serving governor as his running mate
As the 2023 general election approaches, the camp of Nigeria's biggest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has reduced down one individual for consideration as running mate, according to sources.
According to sources, Atiku's supporters are nearing the end of negotiations with Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the job of vice president.
Barring a last-minute adjustment, Okowa will be announced as the running mate of the front-runner for the president in 2023.
Given his position in the party's presidential primaries two weeks ago, Atiku feels more at ease with the Delta State governor.
Meanwhile, the report of a PDP committee comprised of governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) formed to find a potential running mate is anticipated today (Tuesday).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set June 17 as the deadline for submitting presidential candidates.
