CBCN Condemns Owo Church Killings, Urges Government To Hunt Terrorist

Owo Terrorist Attack

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has urged the government to step up efforts to apprehend the attackers of St. Francis Xavier Church in Owo, Ondo state.

Failure to do so, the Bishops said, would hasten the country's plunge into anarchy.

Most Revd Lucius Ugorji, President of the CBCN and Archbishop-Elect of Owerri, issued the call on Sunday night in response to the heinous act that cost 25 lives.

"I was shocked and saddened to learn about the brutal attack on innocent worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church Owo in the Diocese of Ondo on Pentecost Sunday," he stated. Nowhere in our country appears to be safe again; not even the military.

"We urge the authorities to track them down and bring them to justice." If the government fails to act decisively on such a serious issue, it will be encouraging the descent of chaos on our country.

"It should accept its primary obligation of protecting its residents' lives and property." The entire world is watching! Above all, God is keeping an eye on us.

"At this dark and trying time, we commiserate with the Diocese of Ondo and beseech God to provide eternal peace to the dead, quick recovery to the injured, and comfort to families grieving the death of their loved ones."
