Police officers of the Eagle-Net patrol team in Delta State, while on stop-and-search duty along the Sapele-Warri expressway have arrested two suspected armed robbers with a gun found in their possession.
Sunday PUNCH gathered that the suspects, 20-year-old Joshua Stephen, and 21-year-old Wisdom Obano, were arrested on Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement that the operatives intercepted an Audi Saloon car with Reg. no. QA 480 UGH, carrying the two suspects who looked suspicious.
The PPRO said, “The team subjected them to a search during which one locally-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from them. The two suspects were arrested and investigation is ongoing.”
In another incident, the police have recovered a Lexus SUV reportedly snatched from the owner along Ughelli-Warri Road, also in Delta State.
According to the police spokesman, operatives attached to Otu-Jeremi Police Station recovered the snatched Lexus 350 SUV with Reg. No. LG 31 GRA on Wednesday at about 1.47pm, while on a stop-and-search duty, along Owawha/Okwagbe road, when they noticed a U-turn by the driver of the said vehicle.
The car reportedly sped off immediately after the driver made the U-turn.
“This aroused the suspicion of the policemen who gave them a hot chase. Along Oghior/Imode Road in Ughelli South LGA, the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the bush, the police said.
“When the vehicle was searched, one Pump Action gun, two locally made guns and six rounds of live cartridges were recovered”.
