Elite clubs have 'woken up' to Amrabat talent as previous Tottenham interest confirmed

Sofyan Amrabat will have ‘woken up’ top clubs around Europe with his World Cup displays, according to his brother.

Nordin Amrabat, who previously played for Watford, was discussing the future of his brother who has been hugely impressive for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 26-year-old midfielder currently plays for Italian side Fiorentina but continues to be heavily linked with a move to one of Europe’s top clubs following yet more top-quality displays.

As well as Liverpool being linked, Tottenham are another club who could revisit their interest after being in talks over a move for the player last year.

According to Football London, Spurs had hoped to sign Amrabat in the January transfer window before eventually signing Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus.

One man who knows exactly why that deal didn’t go through is Amrabat’s brother, who believes that it’s only a matter of time until another big club comes knocking for the World Cup star.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, via Sport Witness, the former Watford man said: “I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan.

“When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.

“I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up.

“In January, Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, but there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina.

“I think the interested parties will now line up.”
